Make a Quick and Dirty Sun Visor Tripod

| June 11, 2009 | 0 Comments

camera-mountWe’ve shown you how to mount a camera on your bike and construct a DIY camera mount for your car, but Flickr’s Heather Champ details her own dead-simple-but-effective method for mounting a camera in her car.

Her trick couldn’t be easier to pull off (or less expensive): Just flip down your sun visor, grab a couple of hair bands, and strap in your camera. If it seems like an unstable little system, check out her stop-and-go traffic time lapse; it works really well. Hit up the link below for the full step-by-step (there’s not much too it), and check out her trippy time lapse for an idea of how you might use your new DIY mount.

Looking Forward To Streaming Live Video From Your iPhone 3G S? Not So Fast.

| June 10, 2009 | 0 Comments

picture-19There’s a poorly kept secret in Silicon Valley: A lot of people are using their iPhones to stream live video over the web. The reason this is kept secret is because technically, no one is supposed to have such an app on their iPhone. You see, Apple has not allowed any of these live-streaming apps into the App Store. One reason is because these apps use hacks to get the iPhone’s camera to record video. But another is undoubtedly because AT&T does not want live streaming video clogging up its network. But if Apple and AT&T think videos like this and this were shot on something like a Nokia N95, they’re dreaming.

Even the video-crippled iPhone 3G has proven to be a great tool for shooting streaming live video, and now with the launch of the iPhone 3G S — which actually supports video, the implications are huge. Companies like Qik and Ustream should be shouting from the rooftops, ‘Finally!,’ right? So why is everyone so quiet when it comes to using the iPhone 3G S for streaming live video? Well, because it’s still far from a sure thing.

wordpress logoWordPress has just released the newest version of their installable blog software: WordPress 2.8 – Baker.

The most notable addition would seem to be the ability to browse themes from within the WordPress Dashboard. With the Theme Browser, you can specify the color you want, how many columns there should be, and fixed or flexible width. You can then select and install themes match those criteria on-the-fly, without leaving the Dashboard.

Tutorial:Convert iTunes videos

Contents

Introduction

Many people ask me the same question: “I purchased videos on iTunes, but I can’t play them on my video player, because they are in some ‘protected’ M4V format that only works on iPods. How can I convert iTunes videos to MPEG or WMV format so I can play them on My portable video device such as Archos and Creative Zen?”

What you’ll need

I searched on Google, Yahoo answers and post the question on large number of forums, unfortunately, after scouring the Web for days, I couldn’t find a FREE way to convert M4V to MPEG, WMV or AVI format.

Then I tried to burn the iTunes video onto a DVD and re-import it into iTunes just like how to remove the protection from the iTunes audios (M4P) by burning it onto a CD and re-import it as mp3. I failed, cause iTunes doesn’t have a DVD burning option, then I used Nero, but it still doesn’t work as Nero doesn’t supports M4V format.

And finally, a software solution. I came across a few kinds of converters on Google search, they are Tunebite, Daniusoft and Noteburner. When I was testing the free trials one by one, what makes me comfortable is the Daniusoft media converter.

Steps

Stpe 1: Download and install the DRM Removal Tool

Stpe 2: Run the software and click “Add..” button to load WMA or M4A, M4B, AAC, WMV, M4P, M4V, ASF files

Step 3: Choose output formats. If you want to convert protected audio files, please select “Convert audio to” list; If you want to convert protected video files, please select “Convert video to” list.
Stpe 4: Start remove DRM and convert your DRM protected music and videos by click on “Start” button.

Tips:
You can click “Settings” button to custom preference for output files.

Alternate methods

If you still want to watch other common video/audio even HD video on your portable video device you can choose Daniusoft Media Converter Pro because Daniusoft Media Converter only support DRM audio and DRM video.

Enjoy Your Free Hulu While You Still Can

| June 4, 2009 | 0 Comments

Why does everything good have to come to an end? Sigh. According to Jeff Bercovici of Daily Finance, Hulu is poised to start charging people subscription fees to watch video on the site.

Reports Bercovici:

Speaking last night at an Internet Week event sponsored by The Hollywood Reporter, Jonathan Miller, News Corp.’s newly-installed chief digital officer, said he envisions a future where at least some of the TV shows and movies on Hulu, the premium video site co-owned by News Corp. (NWS), NBC Universal and Disney (DIS), are available only to subscribers.

Bercovici also quoted Miller as saying that the issue could come up as soon as Monday at a Hulu board meeting, though it’s not not on the agenda at present. He also closed by saying, ‘I don’t see why over time that shouldn’t happen.’

Oh well, we suppose that moderately web savvy people will be forced to find ways to illegally circumvent paying for Hulu‘s content on the internet, just like they always do with everything else they don’t feel like paying for.
