Mac OS X only: Freeware app iRed Lite lets you control almost any application using your Apple Remote.

After you run iRed Lite, you can press and hold the Menu button to activate the app and choose what program you’d like to control. iRed Lite comes with controls for 9 apps baked in (from iTunes and Quicktime to Keynote and Powerpoint), but if you want to get advanced, you can create your own actions with the iRed Lite editor. iRed Lite is very similar to the shareware app, Mira, minus the pricetag. iRed Lite is freeware, Mac OS X only.
